Dear Political Leaders,
I was just wondering, exactly which religion are you trying to protect? I’m a follower of Christ, and I’ve looked through 24 different translations of my bible (32 if you include Lexicon, Greek and Hebrew text) and I have to tell you, not a single one, (ZERO, NONE) tells me that it’s ok to refuse service to another human being for any reason. Let me repeat that. No verse in the Bible (32 translations / versions) EVER tells us that we should discriminate…In fact, the Bible that I read, tells us to do the exact opposite.
The bible that I read tells us that hate is a sin equal to murder. Passing judgement is evil in God’s eyes. But hey, don’t take my word for it. Try Jesus’s word instead.
Matthew 5: 21“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire.
Matthew 5: 38“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40 And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic,h let him have your cloak as well. 41 And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.42 Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you. 43“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? 48You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
But wait, there’s more!
1 John 4: 18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.19 We love because he first loved us. 20 If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. 21 And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.
John 13: 34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
John 15: 12“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for another. 14You are my friends if you do what I command you.
Not enough? Romans is good too.
9 Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. 10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. 11 Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. 12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. 13 Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.
14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly.h Never be wise in your own sight. 17 Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. 19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” 20 To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
I could keep going for days..but I won’t. Instead, I’m asking the conservative Christians who write these bills in the name of God, to please send me your verses. I don’t see any Jewish or Muslim people backing your bill. Could it be because their Holy books do not condone hatred, even though the first several books/ chapters of their texts are pretty much the same as the Christian’s? Show me where I am wrong. Which verses in what book has God telling us that we can discriminate? Which verses have Jesus turning people away for ANY reason? Which freaking bible are you reading cause it’s not in mine? Clearly, my bible is wrong? Have I been taught lies my entire life? Educate the masses with the words that YOU put in God’s mouth. Bring me your hate verses…
